A mobile terminal and a method for improving an access rate of a point to point protocol for the same are provided to increase the access rate of the point to point protocol y controlling a standby time of an acknowledgement message for a message for requesting an access to a link control protocol dynamically. A mobile terminal includes a wireless module(110) and a controller(150). The wireless module transmits a message for requesting an access to a link control protocol and receives an acknowledgement message for the request message. The controller checks whether the acknowledgement message for the request message is received in a predetermined standby time or not, varies the standby time dynamically according to a result of the checking, and retransmits the request message. The controller starts a timer for counting the standby time, and checks if the acknowledgement message is received before the expiration of the timer. |
