A gaming system is disclosed for enabling a technician to open a door of a gaming machine without needing a physical key having a biometric controlled door lock. The system comprising: one or more gaming machines each having a door, a server connected to the one or more gaming machines via a network, and one or more mobile devices. The server stores a code decoding module for determining a gaming machine identifier (ID). The gaming machine ID is used by a gaming machine ID database to determine which gaming machine has been scanned. Each mobile device enables a technician to scan a code on the gaming machine using the camera on the mobile device. The mobile device transmits a mobile device identifier and a technician's personal identification number, after which the door unlocks after the gaming machine receives an unlock signal.
