发明名称 Improvements in mounting of front wheels and engines of automobiles
摘要 435,392. Mounting engines etc.; threepoint suspensions. LESLIE, I. A., Fairwater, Evesham, Worcestershire. March 14, 1934, No. 8092. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] In a motor vehicle, the engine unit is mounted in the chassis frame so as to allow relative rocking about a longitudinal axis and is directly carried by the front road wheels which are connected thereto by independently acting metallic springs and hydraulic or frictional vibration dampers. The engine and gearbox unit a, a<1> is shown mounted by front and rear trunnions b<1>, a<4>, in frame cross-members b, a<3>, the radiator f being carried either by the engine or by a dropped frame member e. The wheels c are carried by links c<1>, d<1>, pivoted to casings c<2> bolted to faced projections d on the crank case. Arms integral with the links c<1> depend into the casings c<2> and engage springs and hydraulic vibration dampers in the manner described in Specification 413,434 [Group XXXII]. Cushioning pads g may be provided between the engine and the side frame members a<a> to limit oscillation and feet may be provided to support the engine on the side members when the trunnions need dismounting. The steering levers f<1> are carried by the dropped frame member e. Instead of being trunnioned, the rear end of the unit may be rigid with a torque tube housing the transmission shaft and rigidly connected to the rear axle casing, the front trunnion b<1> being, in this case, mounted in rubber to allow a slight universal movement.
