In the test circuit, a high-current source (1) containing a generator is connected in series with a first high-voltage source (3) which can be bypassed by a first auxiliary switch (6), a second high-voltage source (4) which can be bypassed by a second auxiliary switch (7), and with a switch (5) to be tested. The output of the generator (1) is applied to the switch (5) to be tested either directly or via a transformer stepping up the test current. During the current flow time of the high-current source (1), the first high-voltage source (3) is inserted into the test circuit in such a manner that its voltage in the area of the zero crossing of the test current increases the repetitive voltage of the high-current source (1) to the extent necessary for switching on the second high-voltage source (4).
