PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold powder for continuously casting a steel having a mass ratio of CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>satisfying ≥1.50 and a high basicity, in which slab cracking can be perfectly prevented, also, heat extraction in a mold is performed in a slow-cooled way so as to suppress slab cracking. SOLUTION: In the mold powder for continuously casting a steel, the mass ratio of CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>is 1.50 to 2.50, and Loss on Ignition (LOI) lies in the range of 15 to 35 mass%.
