A side airbag device to improve protection performance by effectively distributing pressure for a lower chamber to protect the rear end of a passenger and an upper chamber to protect the chest of the passenger. For this, the side airbag device according to the embodiment of the present invention comprises an airbag cushion to be expanded with the injection of gas; a separator joined to the inside of the airbag cushion to partition the inside of the airbag cushion into a large volume upper chamber and a small volume lower chamber, to be separated from the airbag cushion with one side, and to form a connection hole to connect the upper and lower chambers; and a diffuser. The diffuser has an upper diffuser hole to supply gas to the upper chamber and a lower diffuser hole to supply gas to the lower chamber. A space between the upper and lower diffuser holes pass through the connection hole. The diffuser closes or opens the connection hole by being in touch with or spaced apart from the separator based on the pressure of the gas. |
