A salt core (30) for forming the cooling gallery (20) of a piston (10) according to one aspect of the present invention has an annular part (31), wherein a spiral groove (35) is formed on the outer circumferential surface of the annular part (31). A method for manufacturing the salt core (30) for forming the cooling gallery (20) of a piston (10) according to the other aspect of the present invention comprises: a first step (S10) of forming a mockup having a shape identical to the shape of the annular part (31) of the salt core (30); a second step (S20) of forming the salt core having the spiral groove (35) using a mold manufactured by the mockup; and a third step (S30) of forming a film layer by submerging the completed salt core in molten metal. Therefore, the present invention has an effect on improving a cooling performance for the piston, which is exposed to high temperature, by reducing the flow resistance of cooling oil through changing the structure of the cooling gallery formed at the piston of a diesel engine.
