The method involves receiving a sequence of pairs of stereoscopic images by using a stereo video endoscope (21) with a pair of image sensors e.g. reference picture sensors and sub picture sensors. Image data of the sequence are transmitted to an evaluation device (29). The image data of the sub picture sensors are transmitted to reduce information contents and/or an amount of data in relation to the image of the reference picture sensors. The image data of the sub picture sensors and the reference picture sensors are processed in the evaluation device and displayed by a display device (30). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a stereo video endoscope (2) a system for processing stereo-endoscopic image data.
