The method includes the step of determining the affect of flicker in each video frame using a color statistic value of a plurality of captured video frames (120) and determining a flicker frequency from the affect of flicker in each video frame (130). Given the flicker frequency, a video camera exposure frequency is selected that provides diversity in light intensities (140). The video camera exposure control is synchronized to the flicker frequency (150) and also adapted to control the amount of flicker occurring in each video frame to capture a plurality of video frames (160).
