PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and an image forming method configured to improve performance for separating recording paper from an image carrier when the image forming device is left unused for a long time in a high-humidity environment.SOLUTION: When it is detected that a transfer belt 6 has been left unused for a predetermined time or longer in an environment at a predetermined absolute humidity or higher, a first current (tip current) with a polarity opposite to transfer polarity flows in a voltage application part 180 while a tip in the conveyance direction of recording paper passes through a transfer nip. A second current (rising current) with the transfer polarity is controlled to flow later than the case in an environment at an absolute humidity less than the predetermined absolute humidity. The absolute value of the first current is controlled to be larger than the absolute value to be obtained when it is not detected that the transfer belt has been left unused for the predetermined time or longer in the environment at the predetermined absolute humidity or higher. |
