The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing arginine vasopressin as an active ingredient for suppressing male fertility and a contraceptive for male, containing the same. When vasopressin is treated to each mouse sperm culture medium in different concentration, high concentration vasopressin-treated groups activate vasopressin receptors, reduce mobility of sperms, suppress capacitation and acrosome reaction, affect tyrosine phosphorylation, and prevent embryonic development and male fertility. Therefore, arginine vasopressin of the present invention can be effectively used as a pharmaceutical composition for suppressing male fertility and a contraceptive for male, containing the same.
