The invention relates to the general field of aerial surveillance. It relates more particularly to the field of the radar locating of aircraft. Its subject matter is a method making it possible to estimate in real time the error made by a primary radar in determining the position of an aircraft on the basis of echoes backscattered by it. To do this, a reference aircraft, that is to say an aircraft capable of transmitting its geographical position and its altitude, is chosen at the instant considered, and the mean deviation in position existing between the position of this reference aircraft as determined on the basis of the measurements of the primary radar and the position provided by the aircraft itself is determined. The reference aircraft provides its geographical position and its altitude by way of a secondary radar associated with the primary radar. The mean deviation represents an estimation of the measurement error made by the primary radar. Determined on the basis of the chosen reference aircraft, it may advantageously be used to correct the position measurement performed on any other aircraft whatsoever.
