An electronically-operated device (100) includes a housing, a heat sink (104) in thermal communication with the housing, and a synthetic jet actuator (200) disposed at least partially within the housing and having actuator electronics (AE) disposed remotely from the synthetic jet actuator (200). The synthetic jet actuator (200) produces a cyclic flow of air across the heat sink (104) to actively cool the housing and the actuator electronics (AE).
