PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating compressor having a simple structure, the reciprocating compressor being configured in such a manner that, in a low-speed rotation region, the amount of oil carried to the outside of the compressor is small and that, in a high-speed rotation region, a large amount of oil is not stored in a crank chamber.SOLUTION: A reciprocating compressor is provided with a pressure release passage for bringing a crank chamber into communication with a suction chamber. The reciprocating compressor is characterized in that: a recess connecting to the crank chamber and formed by a peripheral wall and a bottom wall is provided on the inside of multiple cylinder bores in the radial direction of the compressor; and the pressure release passage is open on a line connecting the bottom wall of the recess and a plane defined by both axes of the drive shaft and the center between a cylinder bore which is above a drive shaft in the gravitational direction and which, among the cylinder bores, is located at the highest position on the upper side in the gravitational direction, and a cylinder bore adjacent to the cylinder bore. |
