PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for punching sheet metal and a method therefor by which device and method through holes having special shapes except circles can be formed without using a punch having an outside shape symmetrical to that of the through hole and a punching cost can be reduced.SOLUTION: A device 1 for punching sheet metal includes an upper die holder 2 vertically moved by a hydraulic ram or the like, a pressing plate 3 fixed to the upper die holder 2, a pressing pad 5 suspended from the upper die holder 2 via an elastic member 4, a punch holder 7 fixed to the pressing pad 5 by bolts 6 or the like and constituted as a punch unit, a lower die 9 on which sheet metal 8 to be punched is placed, and a die 11 embedded in the lower die 9 and also provided with a through hole 10 having an oval shape corresponding to the oval shape of the through hole to be punched in the sheet metal 8. |
