A bodily fluid absorbent core for a bodily fluid absorbent article is formed with one or more elongated depressions. The core 40 includes one or more surface layers and one or more inner sections lying inside the one or more surface layers. The one or more surface layers are formed primarily of liquid-absorbent fibers and the one or more inner sections are formed of the liquid-absorbent fibers and superabsorbent polymer particles.
