<p>The invention relates to a device (10) and method for cutting a can blank (11), wherein an axial end section of the can blank (11) is removed. During the cutting process, the can blank (11) is moved about a first rotational axis (D1) at a constant speed by a conveying device (27). Preferably a laser beam (71) is used as a cutting means (69). A deflecting device (72), for example a faceted mirror (75) having several reflection surfaces (74), deflects the laser beam (71) to a focal point (F) in the area of a can receptacle (28) of the conveying device (27). The shell surface (20) of the can blank (11) is located there. The axial end section (12) of the can blank is removed by rotating the can blank (11) about the longitudinal axis (D2) of the can blank. The deflection of the laser beam (71) is adapted to the rotational motion of the conveying device (27) about the first rotational axis (D1) with the aid of the deflecting device (72) so that the focal point (F) of the laser beam does not change with respect to the longitudinal axis of the can blank (11) during the laser cutting, even if the can blank rotates about the first rotational axis (D1), which extends at a distance from the longitudinal axis of the can blank (11) and preferably parallel to said longitudinal axis of the can blank.</p> |
