A broadcasting receiver for providing a traffic information service and an operating method thereof are provided to display a traffic information service video signal on a main screen and display a video signal of a viewing TV broadcasting channel on a sub screen if a user wants to receive the traffic information service by selecting a TPEG broadcasting channel while watching videos and voices of a current TV broadcasting channel. A first decoder(202) outputs video and voice signals of a TV(Television) broadcasting channel or a voice signal of a radio broadcasting channel from a broadcasting signal received through a first tuner(200). A second decoder(210) outputs TPEG(Transport Protocol Expert Group) data of a TPEG broadcasting channel from a broadcasting signal received through a second tuner(208). A TPEG data processor(212) processes the TPEG data outputted from the second decoder and extracts traffic information. A navigation unit(214) generates traffic information service video and voice signals by using map information and the traffic information extracted by the TPEG data processor. A video and voice processor(204) performs a processing operation so as to output the video and audio signals of the TV broadcasting channel or the voice signal of the radio broadcasting channel outputted from the first decoder and the traffic information service video and voice signals generated by the navigation unit to a video and voice output unit(206). A controller(218) controls operations of each unit.
