The present invention relates to a core or foundry sand that can be used for the production of cores and casting moulds for the casting of molten metals, comprising a basic moulding material, coated with a layer of an adhesive agent and a layer of water glass lying over the latter and a water glass content in the range of approximately 0.25% by weight to approximately 0.9% by weight in relation to the overall weight of the core and foundry sand.
