The sheet feeder has separating units that are provided for separating sheets fed to a processing station of the sheet processing machine. The separation units are arranged above a sheet stack. A compensation device (10) is used to compensate the flatness of the uppermost sheet of the sheet stack. The compensating device is arranged over the surface of a stacking pallet (12). The filling chambers (11) are filled with the fluid, and are arranged near the compensating device. The chambers are connected with a fluid assembly via a distribution system (13).
