According to the invention, in order to reduce the charging of a battery (1), in particular a lithium ion battery, at least one consumer device is used, every operating mode of which has the effect of reducing the charging of the battery (1), wherein, by means of a control device (50), the consumer device is activated upon the input of a danger signal in such a way that a reduction in the charging of the battery (1) by at least 90% is implemented within a specific time interval by means of the consumer device.
