PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical member having a porous glass layer on a substrate, containing fewer voids, and undergoing less crystallization.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical member having a porous glass layer 41 formed on a substrate 1 includes steps of forming a glass powder layer 2 containing a plurality of glass powders on the substrate 1, fusing the glass powders in the glass powder layer 2 with each other to form a mother glass layer 21 containing silicon and aluminum, causing phase separation of the mother glass layer 21 to form a phase-separated glass layer 31, and etching the phase-separated glass layer 31 to form a porous glass layer 41. The fusion index M and the ratio A of aluminum to silicon of the mother glass layer 21 in the forming step of the mother glass satisfy particular relations. |
