483,022. Filtering gases. VOKES, C. G. Oct. 9, 1936, No. 27461. [Class 8 (ii)] A filter has interchangeable or reversible parts for permitting cleansing of the filtering surfaces by liquids. As shown, the air is filtered by passing through the upper parts of frames 11, 12, 13, while the lower parts of the frames are cleaned bv immersion in oil. The frames are reversible in guides 15 in a casing 2, 3, the lower part 3 of which contains the oil and is detachably secured to the upper part 2 by means of screws 4. The air enters the casing through an open-work panel 6 and passes under a screen 17, which extends below the surface of the oil. A deflector 20 extends beneath the screen 17. The air then passes through the filters 11, 12, 13 to the outlet 7, in front of which is placed an oil-retaining screen 21, having perforations 25. The frames 11, 12, 13 carry filtering fabric which is of progressively finer mesh and lesser area from the first to the last frame. In another arrangement, filtering screens are washed by liquid which flows from an upper to a lower tank. When all the oil has flowed down the tanks are reversed.
