Use of a solubilizate which comprises at least one antimicrobial agent, an emulsifier having hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value of 8-18, and water, as an antimicrobial agent which is enclosed in micelles formed by emulsifier molecules, e.g. for: (a) the bacteriostatic or germ-reducible treatment of room air by spraying or aerosol formation, (b) bacteriostatic or germ-reducible treatment of food, (c) germ-inhibiting or germ-reducible treatment of objects, and/or (d) producing coating materials with bacteriostatic or germ-reducible action, is claimed. Use of a solubilizate which comprises at least one antimicrobial agent, an emulsifier having hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value of 8-18, and water, as an antimicrobial agent which is enclosed in micelles formed by emulsifier molecules, for: (a) the bacteriostatic or germ-reducible treatment of room air by spraying or aerosol formation, (b) the bacteriostatic or germ-reducible treatment of food by introducing into or applying to the food, (c) germ-inhibiting or germ-reducible treatment of objects by incorporating in or applying to the object surfaces and/or (d) producing coating materials, preferably paints and colors, with bacteriostatic or germ-reducible action, is claimed.
