Provided is a welding method that comprises: a step of preparing a first base material (50) and a second base material (60); a step of disposing the first base material (50) and the second base material (60) such that a first end face of the first base material (50) and a second end face of the second base (60) face each other; and a step of welding the first base material (50) and the second base material (60) together using GMA welding such that the first end face and the second end face are joined together. In the step of welding the first base material (50) and the second base material (60) together, an arc (11) is formed in a state where a welding wire (15) is made to enter into a region surrounded by a melted region (12), and as a result thereof, the melted region (12) is formed so as to penetrate through the first base material (50) and the second base material (60) in the thickness direction.
