Self-ignited combustion engine with partial shut-down and method for operating such a combustion engine with optimised consumption

The auto-ignition internal combustion engine (10) has two groups of cylinders having different compression ratios. Each cylinder of one group has a compression ratio greater than the compression ratio of each cylinder of the other group. In event of partial deactivation in the lower part load range of the engine, the cylinder of one group should be in operation. Each cylinder has a combustion chamber (30) and is switchable in load-dependent manner. An independent claim is also included for a method for the operation of an auto-ignition internal combustion engine.
