An optical connector plug is comprised of a pair of split front and rear housings (2, 3) generally in the shape of a quadrilateral cylinder for receiving a ferrule holding an optical fiber. One (2) of the housings is provided with engagement openings (2c) at least on opposite wall portions thereof, and the other housing (3) is provided, on its opposite wall portions, with engagement projections (3d) engaged in the engagement openings (2c). Furthermore, fitting projections (2d) are formed in the longitudinal direction on the wall portions in which the engagement openings (2c) are formed, and fitting recesses (3e) in which the fitting projections (2d) are fitted are formed in the wall portions on which the engagement projections (3d) are formed. The pair of housings (2, 3) are firmly connected to each other by engaging the engagement projections (3d) with the engagement openings (2c) and by fitting and engaging the fitting projections (2d) in the fitting recesses (3e).
