PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for performing hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) in a wireless communication system are provided to efficiently perform HARQ even when the number of user equipment (UE) supported by the wireless communication system increase. CONSTITUTION: A base station (BS) transmits enhanced physical hybrid-ARQ indicator channel (E-PHICH) assignment information to UE (S600). The BS transmits acknowledgement (ACK)/negative acknowledgement (NACK) transmission area indication information to the UE (S610). The UE transmits uplink (UL) data to a node within a multi-node system (S620). The node transmits ACK/NACK by using one of E-PHICH or PHICH according to the ACK/NACK transmission area indication information (S630).
