PURPOSE: A composition containing Eclipta prostrate extract, fraction thereof, terthienyl derivatives and pharmaceutically acceptable salt is provided to remarkably suppress TGF-beta expression and to promote hair growth. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing alopecia or promoting hair growth contains Eclipta prostrate extract or fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, low carbon number alcohol of C1-4, or mixture thereof. A cosmetic composition for preventing alopecia or promoting hair growth contains the extract or fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition contains terthienyl derivative of chemical formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
