摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejecting apparatus capable of controlling at a low level a decrease in medium end position detection accuracy owing to a dirty optical sensor and to provide a medium end position detecting method in the liquid ejecting apparatus.SOLUTION: A reference reflection surface for acquiring a sensitivity determination value for determining the sensitivity switching timing of a paper width sensor in a carriage is irradiated with light, and an output voltage of a light sensing portion which has received the reflected light is acquired. A reference surface voltage Vs is measured by subtracting the output voltage from a source voltage (S1). A ratio (Vs/Vs0 ratio) of the reference surface voltage Vs and its initial value Vs0 is calculated (S4), and a correction amount dx is determined with reference to table data based on the Vs/Vs0 ratio (S5). A position where the output voltage crosses a threshold value is acquired as an end detection position, and an end position of paper is acquired by correcting the end detection position with the correction amount dx.
