PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for use in maintenance of an elevator, which can reliably stop a cage and a balance weight when elevator maintenance work is performed and which can increase efficiency of the maintenance work.SOLUTION: A safety device for use in maintenance of an elevator is applied to the elevator which includes a cage 6 ascending/descending through a hoistway 1, a balance weight 7 ascending/descending relatively to the cage 6, a pair of guide rails 3 for the balance weight, guiding the balance weight 7, a main rope 8 suspending the cage 6 and the balance weight 7, and a pit 17 provided in the lower part of the hoistway 1. The safety device stops an operation of the cage 6 when maintenance work for the elevator is performed. The safety device includes opening/closing means 9a and 9b for stopping the balance weight 7 by holding the guide rails 3 for the balance weight, and a shift lever 10 which is provided in the balance weight 7 and which operates the opening/closing means 9a and 9b in the state of making the balance weight 7 housed in the pit 17. |
