A video game control system and method is provided in which participants in a game may change control modes during game play to result in beneficial combinations of moves during a game. Participants are given the opportunity to specialize in specific control modes, and the control modes may correspond to specific martial arts whose styles are used by characters during the play of the game. Further, control styles may be altered while carrying out combinations or strings of moves such that particularly effective attacks and defenses may be employed by game participants. <IMAGE> |
