An alkaline battery in which a positive electrode (2) containing manganese dioxide and a negative electrode (3) are held, together with a separator (4) disposed therebetween, in a bottomed cylindrical battery case (1) and the opening (1b) of the battery case (1) has been sealed with a gasket, wherein graphite has been added to the positive electrode, the proportion of the graphite in the positive electrode is in the range of 2.5-4.3 mass%, and the manganese dioxide, in analysis by X-ray powder diffractometry, has a half-value width for the (110) plane in the range of 2.00-2.40º. |
