MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

摘要

PURPOSE:To improve the recording and reproducing characteristics in a high recording density region by incorporating specific hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium contg. the hexagonal ferrite powder which has a planar shape and had the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the plate surface is formed by specifying the axis of easy magnetization of the magnetic recording medium to the longitudinal direction of the medium and incorporating the hexagonal ferrite magnetic powder expressed by formula BaO.Fe12-x-ySnxMgyO18 (where 0.55<=x<=0.88, 0.17<=y<=1.05) into the magnetic layer. Namely, the Hc distribution of the medium is improved by substituting and introducing Sn and Mg which are nonmagnetic metallic elements into the hexagonal ferrite particles. The recording and reproducing characteristics in a short wavelength region are improved in this way.
