A separator formed from a porous body having a large number of continuous pores, wherein the difference between the maximum pore diameter and the minimum pore diameter, corresponding to the cumulative frequency of the mercury volume integrated from the large-pore-diameter side reaching 10% and 90% respectively in a pore diameter distribution curve measured using a mercury porosimeter, is equal to or less than 30 mum.
