PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain, in a short time, measurements relating to circumference of cylindrical or rounded structures, such as fuselage sections of airplanes.SOLUTION: An automated motorized assembly is utilized to move a laser reflector 200 on inside or outside surfaces, along an edge of a barrel shape structure 110. The laser tracker 210 may follow the laser reflector as it moves along the edge of the barrel shape structure, acquiring circumferential data. The laser reflector may be moved to different positions to permit different circumferential rows of data to be obtained. The automated motorized assembly may comprise a movement component that ensures consistent, continued, and/or tight movement along the traversed edge. The movement component may comprise one or more motors for driving at least some of a plurality of wheels and/or rollers. The automated motorized assembly may be controlled by user input, which may be communicated wirelessly. |
