PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-alkanoyl resorcinol, which can be carried out with an industrially simple and inexpensive method, hardly discharges harmful waste, is selective and has a high yield.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing 4-alkanoyl resorcinol expressed by general formula (1), by which a compound having a sulfo group is made to coexist in a reaction in which a saturated carboxylic acid or a saturated carboxylic acid halide is reacted with resorcinol to produce 4-alkanoyl resorcinol. In the formula, R represents a 1-12C chain, branched or cyclic alkyl group which may be substituted with a 1-12C alkoxyl group or a phenyl group. |
