The mirror (2) has an elongated housing for receiving a mirror glass (5). An adjustment device (7) is moved between a normal position, in which the mirror in a mounted state is away horizontally from a body of a motor car (1) and a swinging position in a housing. The housing is pivoted in the swinging position with respect to the normal position, so that unchanged position of a driver (6) and a portion of the visible range back into the normal position is visible. The adjustment device pivots the housing vertically upward or downward in the mounted state. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an outside mirror system (2) a method for operating an outside mirror (3) a motor car.
