Process for the separation of 2-butanol from tert.-butanol/water mixtures

Separation of 2-butanol (SBA) from a technical mixture of SBA, tertiary butanol (TBA) and water with the amount of water above the limiting concentration of both the TBA/water and SBA/water azeotropes comprises: (a) adding a TBA-containing stream so that the amount of water is below the limiting concentration for the distillation limit of both azeotropes; and (b) distilling the mixture into SBA and TBA and water streams. An Independent claim is also included for 2-butanol thus obtained.
