PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily center a chuck device of a lathe with a simple structure including a small number of components. SOLUTION: A bottomed slit 12 for partitioning a workpiece contact 7 in contact with a workpiece W of a chuck pawl 2 and a remaining area is formed on at least one of a plurality of chuck pawls 2. A centering threaded hole 14 is made on the slit 12. The plurality of chuck pawls 2 are simultaneously slid to move in a vertical direction with respect to a rotating axis X of the workpiece W to be lathed so as to hold the workpiece W. A tapered screw 13 is fitted into the centering threaded hole 14 and is moved back and forth by tightening or loosening it so as to expand and contract the slit 12, thereby centering the workpiece W held by the chuck pawl 2.
