PURPOSE: A method for extracting pigment from microalgae and a composition containing fucoxanthin for preventing or treating obesity or diabetes are provided to enhance stability. CONSTITUTION: A method for extracting pigment from microalgae comprises a step of performing accelerated solvent extraction using 10-100% ethanol at 0-1,500 psi and 40-160 Deg.C. for 1-30 minutes. The microalgae include Chlorophyte, Phaeophyceae, Rhodophyte, Cyanophyta, Bacillariophycea, Dinophyta, or Haptophyta. The pigment is fucoxanthin. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity or diabetes contains fucoxanthin. |
