PURPOSE: A stereoscopic image display device is provided to suppress vertical cross talk by improving top and bottom viewing angles when a user watches a three-dimensional video. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes gate and data lines which define pixel areas by crossing each other. A pixel electrode and a common electrode are formed in each pixel area as being separated from each other. The second substrate includes a black matrix, a color filter layer, and a transparent switching electrode. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. First and second polarizing plates (125,130) are disposed in both outer surfaces of the liquid crystal panel, and have polarizing axes perpendicular to each other. A backlight unit is disposed in the outside of the first polarizing plate. A patterned retarder (140) changes a λ/4 phase disposed in the outside of the second polarizing plate.
