An apparatus for recharging liquid electrolyte batteries for use in portable electronic devices comprises a recharging port 13 to receive a battery 19 to be recharged, a first reservoir 12a for containing fresh liquid electrolyte, a second reservoir 12b for receiving depleted electrolyte, and a recharging mechanism fluidly connected to the first and second reservoirs 12a, 12b and configured to at least one of drain depleted electrolyte from a battery 19 received in the recharging port 13 into the second reservoir 12b and/or dispense fresh electrolyte from the first reservoir 12a into a battery 19 received in the recharging port. The apparatus also comprises a controller 18 connected to the recharging mechanism to control operation thereof, and a user-operable interface 17 connected to the controller for a user to actuate the recharging apparatus. Also disclosed are a method of operating such an apparatus and a system comprising a plurality of such apparatuses connected to a server. The apparatus is particularly suitable for replacing spent electrolyte in a battery and replenishing with fresh electrolyte, wherein the battery is used in an electronic cigarette. The apparatus may also be adapted to refill the electronic cigarette with a fresh vaporizable liquid. |
