PURPOSE: A composition for preventing or treating depression is provided to suppress nuclear translocation of a glucocorticoid receptor, thereby suppressing signal transduction induced by stress and showing anti-stress effect. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating depression contains an ethanol extract of Mori Cortex Radicis as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared by an ultrasonicator. The composition is prepared by adding sodium carbonate to the extract and dissolving an insoluble material. The composition suppresses the activity of a glucocorticoid receptor. The composition suppresses nuclear translocation of the glucocorticoid receptor.
