The device (4) has an articulated frontal protection wall (41) folded up on a rear face of a backrest of a seat when the seat is in a position and raised when the seat is in another position so as to define a storage space (44) on the rear face of the backrest. An intermediate wall (43) of the storage space is adapted to move the wall beyond a front end of the folded backrest so as to extend the storage space beyond the front end. A lateral protection wall (423) is mounted on the rear face of the backrest, and another pair of lateral protection walls (421, 422) extends beyond the front end. The protection walls are made of semi-rigid material.
