The fuel injector (10) has a valve housing (11) which is inserted into receiving bore portion (107) of internal combustion engine. A combustion chamber (101) of combustion engine in installed position faces the valve portion (12) which is partially in contact with the combustion chamber. The valve portion made of metal, is surrounded with a protective element (20) consisting of a material having a higher corrosion tendency than the material of valve portion. The protective element is extended over portion of the axial length of valve portion.
