PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving a saccharification yield or an ethanol yield in the case of employing a saccharification fermentation process in which enzymatic saccharification and ethanol fermentation are conducted simultaneously when the ethanol is manufactured from woody biomass.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing ethanol from woody biomass includes a first saccharification fermentation process in which woody biomass is pretreated and then enzymatic saccharification and ethanol fermentation are conducted, and a second saccharification fermentation process in which the residue obtained in the process is mechanically treated and then saccharification fermentation is conducted. A method of manufacturing ethanol from biomass comprises a first saccharification fermentation process in which woody biomass is pretreated and then enzymatic saccharification and ethanol fermentation are conducted, and a process of mechanically treating the residue obtained in the process and sending the same to the first saccharification fermentation process. In the method of manufacturing ethanol, the mechanical treatment in the residue treatment process is grinding treatment. In the method of manufacturing ethanol, chemical treatment is conducted at least before or at least after the mechanical treatment in the residue treatment process. |
