APPARATUS FOR INCREASING VLCC SPEED

PURPOSE: A device for increasing the speed of a very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) is provided to reduce the consumption of fuel by spreading a curtain type sail when wind blows from the bow to the stern of a carrier. CONSTITUTION: A device for increasing the speed of a VLCC is composed as follows. Upper and lower rails (4) are installed on the front of a bow railing in a bridge wing (2) and both sides of the top of a deck in a horizontal direction. Multiple rollers (5) are formed between the upper and lower rails at uniform intervals. A curtain type sail (6) is installed along the upper and lower rails and can be spread in a horizontal direction. When wind blows from the bow to the stern of the VLCC, the device uses the power of the wind.
