PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate recovery from an error during decoding and to obtain an image of higher quality after decoding.SOLUTION: A differential between pixel data inputted from a pixel block including a predetermined number of continuous pixel data items and local decode data from a retarder is quantized. The quantized differential data are inputted to a first input terminal of an output selector. Furthermore, the quantized differential data are inversely quantized, added to the local decode data supplied from the retarder by an adder, and inputted to a local decode data selector. The local decode data selector selects input pixel data at the head of a line and selects output of the adder in other timing. Output of the local decode data selector is stored in the retarder as next local decode data and inputted to a second input terminal of the output selector. The output selector selects the second input terminal in accordance with input of pixel data at the head of the pixel block and selects the first input terminal in accordance with input of other pixel data. |
