PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for discharging droplets, for holding the leading end of a plunger during discharging time, in a state out of contact with the inner wall of a liquid chamber.SOLUTION: An apparatus for discharging droplets includes: a liquid chamber 14 having a discharge port; a through-hole 24 communicating with the liquid chamber; a plunger 40 inserted in the through-hole; a plunger moving mechanism; a plunger position determination mechanism for regulating the position of an edge part 13 of the plunger; a liquid feed device for feeding a liquid material to the liquid chamber; and a control part. The plunger position determination mechanism has a forward contact part 43 provided on the plunger and a forward stopper 51 facing the forward contact part, and regulates the position of the edge part of the plunger in advance and stop in the neighborhood of the inner wall of the liquid chamber in its advance direction by allowing the forward contact part to be contacted on the forward stopper. The control part is interlocked with advance and retreat movement of the plunger, and discharges the liquid material in a state of droplets by controlling start and stop of feed operation of the liquid feed device. |
